Antarctic Great Wall Ecotogy National Observation and esearch Station

China South Pole Wall Station is the first perennial scientific research station established by China in Antarctica. It was completed on February 20, 1985. Located on the Fildes Peninsula in the west of King George Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, the geographical coordinates are 62 ° 12 ′ 59 "S, 58 ° 57 ′ 52" W. The station area is 2 kilometers long from north to south and 1.26 kilometers wide from east to west, covering an area of approximately 2.52 square kilometers. The station area is a hilly terrain composed of volcanic rocks, with an average altitude of 10 meters. The extreme highest temperature in summer is 11.7 ℃, the extreme lowest temperature in winter is -27.7 ℃, and the annual average temperature is -2.1 ℃. The average annual precipitation is 589.6 millimeters, mainly with snowfall. The maximum monthly precipitation is 173.4 millimeters, and the annual average relative humidity is 89%. The air humidity is relatively high and the salt content is high. The number of days of strong winds throughout the year is over 129, with a maximum wind speed of 33.0 meters/second and a maximum wind speed of 38.1 meters/second. The station area has a scale of 4082 square meters and currently has 12 buildings of various types, including Building 1, Comprehensive Activity Center, Scientific Research Office Building, Power Generation Building, Living Building, Comprehensive Warehouse, Scientific Research Building, Sewage Treatment Building, Waste Treatment Building, Food Storage Building, Boiler Room, Fruit and Vegetable Cultivation Room, etc. The oil storage capacity is 700 cubic meters, there is a Helipad and a 40 ton wharf berth, there are engineering machinery, transportation vehicles, double aircraft rubber boats, all terrain vehicles, triangle tracked off-road vehicles, etc., and the station area is equipped with satellite network system and medical security equipment. In terms of scientific research, we have mainly carried out biological research, environmental monitoring, conventional meteorological observation, ice and snow, sea ice, geology, geomagnetism, Seismology observation, satellite mapping and other scientific research observation and research. The Great Wall Station can accommodate 40 people for summer and 25 people for winter each year.
